  1. Very good post! I was wondering about all that when I read the NYT piece on Sunday. And until you pointed out the disparity, I had not given thought to the Deaf-as-Sexy versus HL-as-Not conceptualization. In addition to sign language being seen as expressive and poetic, do you think there is also some ageism in there? xo, Helena
